Madeline Jonas

I believe that genuine intellectual curiosity is the foundation of lasting academic growth. When students develop real engagement with ideas, ownership of their learning follows naturally. My work is guided by that conviction, and by a deep commitment to knowing each student well enough to make it possible. I am a Yale graduate with a B.A. in History with distinction, where my studies took me to archives across the country in pursuit of original research, an experience that shaped how I think about rigorous inquiry and what it means to work seriously with ideas. Before turning to education, I worked in executive search. I have since built a practice in Los Angeles devoted to close, personalized work with students in the humanities: advanced English, history, and the social sciences, at the Advanced Placement level and beyond.

My experience spans analytical writing instruction, executive function coaching, independent study, including designing full academic-year curricula for students in non-traditional programs, and college advising. I hold Associate membership with the Independent Educational Consultants Association, completed training at the IECA Summer Training Institute, and am currently pursuing a college counseling certificate through UCLA Extension. I bring to this work a continuing and genuine relationship with the humanities. I read widely, think seriously about history and literature, and believe that remaining an engaged learner is part of what it means to be a good mentor.
